How to Prepare for Tattoo Removal
- Posted on: Jul 15 2018
When it comes to your youth and even your twenties, you may have made more than a few questionable decisions— including gauged ears, piercings, or even tattoos. And although some of these mistakes clear up (or close up) on their own, others are there as a constant reminder of your past— especially your tattoos. Luckily, here at Callender Cosmetic and Dermatology Center, we specialize in a variety of treatments including tattoo removal to help break up the pigment in your skin and get rid of those memories for good.
- Avoid NSAIDs: If you are looking for something over the counter to help you with the pain, make sure to take Tylenol and to avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen an aspirin because they may cause you to bruise.
- Eat Before: The last thing you want to do is come into your treatment session on an empty stomach. We encourage our patients to eat a little something beforehand so that you aren’t lightheaded during your procedure.
- Quit Smoking: If you are a chronic smoker, we may encourage you to quit at least two weeks before your first session. All types of nicotine use (even vaping) lowers your body’s ability to heal itself and puts you at a higher risk of infection following treatment.
- Avoid the Sun: Make sure you avoid any lengthy sun exposure before your treatment. The last thing you will want to do is come into our office with sunburned skin. Also, while your skin is healing afterward, make sure you stay out of the sun because your skin is more prone to burning and scarring.
If you have a tattoo or two that you have been dying to get rid of, schedule a consultation with Callender Cosmetic and Dermatology Center. During your consultation we will look at your tattoo and be able to determine how many treatments you may need and how effective removal will be for you.
